Private Leslie Charles Edwin Beard, killed during an action on 20 September 1917 at age 21.
He was a soldier, a person who risks his life for safety and freedom. That's why I want to make this webpage to remember him. To remember all the lives sacrificed at the First World War, all of them were brave and strong. Although they aren't living on Earth anymore, they will live in our remembrances and memory. Risking your life for your country is not an easy job. I want him to be remembered of someone who fought for his country, actually for all of us. What do you think of when you hear he word soldier? Murderers? Killers? They were just human, like all of us. They also had family and friends, like everyone has. They fought for us. They fought for our freedom. They were brave.
Private Leslie Charles Edwin Beard was born in Prahran in Australia. His parents are John and Elizabeth Lilian Sincock.

He left his home to fight in this horrible war when he was 18. The date of his enlistment from Nominal Roll was on 31 December 1914, the date of his enlistment was on 4 January 1915. His rank on enlistment was private.
When he died he was 21 years old. The date of his death is 20 September 1917. It was in the third battle of Ypres, and in the Battle of the Menin Road Ridge, which was the third British general attack in the 3rd battle of Ypres. Sadly, he died on the first day of the Battle of the Menin Road Ridge, which was also called Battle of the Menin Road.
His grave is in Tyne Cot Cemetery, which I visited during our excursion. It was really special to be there. I saw a lot of graves of brave soldiers who died during World War 1.
Below in the picture you see his grave. R.I.P. Private Beard. We will remember you!
